How long does the free trial last? What do I get?
The free trial allows you to look up and identify up to 50 songs with FixTunes. After that, you must purchase the program. If you do not purchase FixTunes, you can still use the program to view your music and fix songs, but the look up and automated functions will not work. The program is fully functioning during the trial period. The reason we don't offer a trial period based on time (i.e. one week) is because most users can fix and organize all their music in just a day or so. If we gave away a week for free, no one would buy it.

How much does FixTunes costs? How do I pay for it?
See our Buy FixTunes page for the answers to these questions.

How long will it take for FixTunes to fix my music?
This, of course, depends on how many songs you have. It will take about 3-7 seconds to look up each of your songs on a typical broadband connection and 2-3 seconds to fix each song. Our tests show about 85% of your songs will be identified. So, figure, about 10 seconds total for each song. Keep in mind that FixTunes can work while you sleep.

Who made FixTunes?

What types of files does FixTunes work with?
If you use FixTunes in "iTunes Mode", it will work with every song inside iTunes, regardless of type. Otherwise FixTunes reads and writes ID3v2 tags (so mp3s).

Where does FixTunes get its music information from?
FixTunes maintains its own database of music information. This database was built from several available sources including commercial music retailers (Amazon.com) and CD databases (FreeDB). We are always adding to, and managing the database to provide the greatest amount of information with the highest accuracy.

What are ID3 Tags?
ID3 tags is the name for the descriptive information stored inside a music file. This information can be anything from textual descriptors (artist, album, track, lyrics) to image data (album art) or even website links. The information is stored inside the song file, so even if you use the song with another program or move it to another computer, the information stays with it. You can learn more about ID3 tags here.

How does the Album Cover Art feature work?
Album Cover Art is downloaded by FixTunes from Amazon.com based on the album and artist of the song and stored on your computer. When you choose to fix a song, the image file is embedded inside the song file so that it can be accessed by other music programs.

How does FixTunes organize my music?
FixTunes gives you the option of renaming your song files and organizing them into folders. iTunes offers this same feature, so this is only available when FixTunes is NOT in iTunes mode. You can create filename and folder patterns based on song information (i.e. "ARTIST - TITLE.mp3") and FixTunes will automatically rename and move your songs.

What music players does FixTunes work with? iTunes? Napster?
FixTunes works with all music players. The song information is stored inside the song files itself, so even if you delete FixTunes or move the song to another computer, the information stays intact. Every modern music program has the ability to read the information from the song files and display it to you (this is how the iPod works as well).

Can FixTunes fix music I downloaded from the Internet?
Yes. FixTunes can fix and music file that is stored on your computer, regardless of where it came from.

How does FixTunes identify my songs?
FixTunes uses the information already in your file (such as the filename or existing tags) to look up your songs. The identification algorithm is complex and will compensate for missing information and misspellings. FixTunes will extract the information from your songs and submit it to our Identification Server. The server will then return the correct song information, along with an accuracy level for the new information.

Why are some of my songs marked unidentified?
FixTunes will not be able to correctly identify all of your songs. If your songs do not have enough information in them (at least part of the artist name and song title are needed) or if the information is too poor that FixTunes cannot recognize it, a song will be marked unidentified.

What does the "Accuracy" value assigned to my songs mean?
Every song that is looked up is given an accuracy value. This describes how close the identified information that FixTunes found comes to the original information in your song file. A value of 99% means that the FixTunes is almost certain it correctly identified the song and returned the correct information. A value of 10% means the information is most likely incorrect.

How can I get my unidentified songs to be identified?
Usually just adding a few words to the song information will help FixTunes identify it (FixTunes needs at least one correctly spelled word from the artist and song names). You can also check the "Wrong Information" fields. Many times, FixTunes downloaded the correct information but marked the song unidentified because of a low accuracy level.

I've fixed my songs but now my music program (i.e. iTunes) can't find them.
If you use FixTunes to organize your music (the filename or location is changed), your music programs will no longer know where your song files are. You will need to re-import your newly fixed songs into your music program. Usually this is done with an "Add / Import Folder" command - just point the program to your Music Folder and it will find and re-scan your newly fixed music.

How do I view the Album Art in my song files?
Every music program will is different and will handle album art differently. In iTunes, for example, you can view the album art by right-clicking on a song, and selecting "Get Info". Consult the help files of your music program for more information.

How do I re-fix or un-fix my music after I have already used FixTunes?
You can use FixTunes to fix your music files as often as you want, even after they have been moved to the "Fixed" category. You can also revert back to the original information by editing a song's details and fixing the song again.

Where does FixTunes put my duplicate song files?
FixTunes creates a "Duplicates" folder in the FixTunes program files folder that FixTunes is installed in. This folder is usually "C:\Program Files\Cloudbrain\FixTunes\Duplicates". Duplicate files are removed from the FixTunes library and will no longer show up in the song lists or search functions.

How does FixTunes decide what songs are duplicates and which ones to keep?
When FixTunes is organizing your music, if two songs are given the same filename, they are marked as duplicates. FixTunes will organize and keep the song file with the higher file size. The smaller file will be moved to the duplicates directory (see previous question).
